Skipton Renaissance

As part of a programme of events designed by Chrysalis Arts for the Skipton Rennaissance Market Towns initative, Lead Artist Rick Faulkner developed a series of proposals for artistic interventions designed to slow traffic down in the busy high street.

A team of dry stone wallers constructed a low, snaking wall down the centre of the high street, reducing the traffic speed to 5mph. Artist Sue Flowers covered the top of the wall with fleece, encouraging pedestrians to enjoy the newly created seating area and appreciate the High Street and it’s architecture from a different perspective. Film Maker Jo Millett created a shop window installation in front of a sofa, also created by the local wallers. Other artists who took part were Van Nong, Helen Turner and David Clough. The artworks remained in place for one weekend and the project was supported by Craven District Council.
