Chrysalis Arts initiated and ran North Yorkshire Open Studios for twelve years from 2005 to 2017. NYOS developed into one of the largest and most successful Open Studio events in the UK with strong tourism links and diverse programmes of audience engagement, commissions  and exhibitions. Chrysalis Arts, together with the artists taking part, worked hard via NYOS to promote North Yorkshire as a place recognized nationally and internationally to see, buy and engage with contemporary visual art.

Following a review and evaluation of NYOS in 2017, and in consultation with Arts Council England, the Board of CAD decided to discontinue the company’s management of NYOS and to support the development of NYOS as an artist-led event. CAD worked closely with a Committee of Artists over an extended period to facilitate a smooth transition and the first artist-led event took place successfully in 2019.
