Paper Sculptures inspired by Selby Abbey

Stone sculptures of faces on the outside of Selby Abbey.

Artist Alun Kirby has been working with Selby Abbey to uncover the sculptures that make up the abbey itself. He has created two sculpture trails which are available from the abbey and are self-led and so can be conducted with social-distancing in place. To further support the trails, we have created a limited number of sculpture kits, suitable for 8-16year olds. These are free and also available to collect from the abbey. Within them you will find materials to help you create your own mini sculptures based on the abbey, as well as some other fun activities. This tutorial will guide you through making your own column and arch, many of which you see outside and inside the abbey. If you cannot get to the abbey or simply wish to have a go at making a column or arch, these are also available to download below to print out at home.
