Fabric of Place
Fabric of Place is a community based, artist in residence project which Chrysalis Arts Development has developed as part of the company’s Slow Art strand of artistic activity.
The project focuses on the distinctiveness of Reeth and the surrounding area of Swaledale. Artists will use creative processes and activities to explore different aspects of the area, its communities and their relationship with where they live, to create a series of artworks and offer a range of opportunities for residents to participate. This two year project will culminate in a touring exhibition in late 2018 and a community artwork that will ultimately be housed in Reeth.
Lead Artist, Joanne B Kaar (www.joannebkaar.com) was in Reeth for two weeks in March 2017 and began her workshops with a group of adults and at the local primary school. The school have done a blog on the work they did with Joanne – click here to read it.
March 2017 saw Fabric of Place officially launch to the community. Joanne was joined by the two other residency artists, Serena Partridge (textile artist) and Graham Taylor (potter). Each artist offered a taster workshop of their art form and gave a talk about their work and their approach to Fabric of Place.
Each artist will be working on the theme ‘Outside In’ over the two year project. Their own work and work they produce with community groups will form part of an installation. To find out more about what each individual artist is working on, click on their name below:
